Enid Fern Haacker nee Van Etten, 80, of East Brunswick NJ, passed away on Christmas Morning, December 25, 2004 at her home. She was born March 13, 1924 in Oswego, IL to the late Harold and Susan Caroline nee Lindley Van Etten.
Enid graduated from Oswego High School and later from Copley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. She served in the the US Army in 1952 as a 1st Lt. and stationed Korea. Just before leaving for Korea she was married in Denton Texas to William Haacker, who was a 1st LT in the USAF. After their completion of service they returned to New Jersey, where William finished his masters at Rudgers and Enid became a housewife.
Survivors include her husband, William Haacker of East Brunswick, NJ, her sons, William L. (Patricia) of Oakhurst, NJ, David S. Haacker MD of Secaucus, NJ, and Paul F. Haacker, East Brunswick NJ; and one grandchild, Ethan Haacker of Oakhurst; three sisters, Dorothy Seidelman of Osseo, WI, Marybelle Lucas of Sandwich IL, Nancy Madge Weaver of Lake Axehandle WI, and brother: Warren (Joyce) Van Etten of Grant, AL; and brother-in-law Lee Haacker of NJ; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Richard Mark in 1993, her parents and step-mother Florence, brother Robert Scott Van Etten of Oswego IL and Harold Lindley Van Etten of Plano, IL.

Enid Fern (Van Etten) Haacker, RN, 80, of East Brunswick died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, at home. She was a homemaker and mother of four sons.
Mrs. Haacker was born in Oswego, Ill., on March 13, 1924. She was a 1942 graduate of Oswego High School. She received her nursing training at the then Copley and Michael Reese teaching hospitals in Aurora, Ill., and Chicago, respectively, and spent the next 10 years working as a private duty nurse. In 1952 she joined the Army, and received additional training at the Medical Field Service School at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Mrs. Haacker was a Korean War veteran, serving as a first lieutenant at a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH) unit in South Korea and, later, as a nurse at an evacuation hospital in Japan. It was in the service in Texas where she met and later married then Air Force 1st Lt. William C. Haacker III of Trenton prior to shipping out to South Korea.
Mrs. Haacker was a member of Conklin United Methodist Church, South River.
She was predeceased by a son, Richard M. Haacker in 1993, for whom she cared in the last years of his fight against AIDS. She was also predeceased by her father, Harold Z. Van Etten and her mother, Susan Caroline Lindley Van Etten; her stepmother, Florence Warren Van Etten, and her brothers, Robert and Harold Z. Van Etten Jr. of Oswego.
Surviving are her husband of 52 years, William C. Haacker III; three sons, William L. Haacker of Oakhurst, David S. Haacker, M.D., of Secaucus and Paul F. Haacker of East Brunswick; her daughter-in-law, Patricia McDaniel Haacker of Oakhurst; a grandson, Ethan R. of Oakhurst; three sisters, Dorothy Seidelman and Nancy Weaver, both of Wisconsin, and Marybelle Lucas of Illinois; a brother, Warren Van Etten of Alabama, and many nieces and nephews.
