"The Herald" (Piedmont, W.Va.),
Friday 22 August 1913:

"Mrs. Elizabeth Laughlin, wife of Mr. J. F. Laughlin, died yesterday 21 August 1913 at the home in Westernport. The deceased was formerly Miss Elizabeth Hoban and was a lady well known in this community. The funeral will take place from St. Peter's Church Monday morning at 9 o'clock."

"The Herald" (Piedmont, W.Va.),
Friday 29 August 1913:

"This community was never more shocked nor expressions of regret more general than on Thursday 21 August 1913 when it was made known that Mrs. Elizabeth Hoban Laughlin, the beloved wife of Mr. James F. Laughlin, of Westernport, had at the noon hour been called to her eternal reward.

It is seldom that we are called upon to note such a sad death and the taking away of one so widely known and thoroughly respected.

The deceased was the youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael J. Hoban, and was born in our vicinity 12 March 1874, and having lived continually in our midst, she had endeared herself not only to her family and immediate friends but to every one who came in contact with her in social or business life, she haveing been a member of the firm of J. F. Hoban & Company, until her marriage to James F. Laughlin a little more than two years ago.

The deceased was not only the ‘helping hand' to many in need of her help and charity, but was a noble church worker, nothing being too hard and difficult for her to undertake and accomplish. Her associates in society and church work have lost one who was always the most cheerful, moth faithful to duty and always ready to bear the burden.

The funeral took place from St. Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport, at ten o'clock Mondy morning, a Requiem High Mass being celebrated by the pastor, Rev. T. E. Gallagher, and choir being assisted by Miss Lucy Louth of Baltimore, who sang ‘Face to Face' and other selections, most feelingly and beautiful, after which the remains were laid to rest in the family lot in St. Peter's cemetery, and the funeral was attended by a large concourse of friends and acquaintances. The floral offering were numerous and most beautiful.

The decased leaves to mourn an irreparable loss, her husband, an infant son, who took up the life the mother laid down, and two sisters, Mrs. J. T. Laughlin of Luke and Mrs. William P. Foley, of Cumberland, and one brother, Mr. John F. Hoban.

Among those attending the funeral from out of town were Mr. John Hoban, Paul Berry and Misses Mamie and Bernie Hoban, of Parkersburg, and Colonel and Mrs. John Keating, of Cumberland.

The pallbearers were James Donahoe, J. M. Davis, Col. John Keating, C. E. Howard, J. P. Brady and John F. McGuigan, and the flowerbearers were E. S. Howard, P. A. Tierney, M. A. Getty and William G. Paul."
