"The Herald" (Piedmont, W.Va.), Friday 13 March 1914:
"Mr. John F. Hoban, a well known and prominent citizen of this community, died at his home in Westernport Sunday 7 March 1914. Mr. Hoban had been in failing health for the past three months, but his condition was not thought to be serious. He was one of the Tri-Towns' youngest business men. He has conducted a furniture store and undertaking establishment on Green Street for several years, having purchased the business formerly conducted by Mr. R. G. Richardson. He was a graduate of the Massachusetts College of Embalming, chartered by the State of Massachusetts.

Born in Westernport, he was the only son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hoban who were prominent residents of Westernport. He is survived by his widow, who was Miss Katherine Hines and three children, Margaret, Michael and John Hoban, and two sisters, Mrs. J. T. Laughlin of Luke and Mrs. William Foley of Cumberland.

The funeral took place from St. Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport, Wednesday morning when High Requiem Mass was celebrated by Rev. Thomas E. Gallagher. Piedmont Aerie No. 707, Fraternal Order of Eagles, of which he was a member, had charge of the arrangements. The pallbearers were Messrs. R. A. Stine, Michael Laughlin, C. E. Howard, P. A. Stevenson, P. P. Codire and Lawrence Albanese.

Mrs. Hoban desires to extend her thanks for the many kindnesses shown to her in her bereavement and to thank the public for the patronage they have extended to Mr. Hoban in business, making it possible for him to attain the success that he did, and to announce that the business will be continued under the same name, but will be under management, and that she hopes the same patronage and courtesy will be extended to her as to him by the people of the Tri-Towns.

Those attending the funeral from out-of-town were Mr. John P. Hoban, Misses Mamie and Bernadine Hoban and Mr. Paul Barry, Parkersburg; William, Thomas and Hamill Boyland, Mr. and Mrs. William Foley and family, Cumberland; William and John Hines, Frostburg, and Mr. Charles Hose, Wilmerding, Pa."
