Martha Mahala Swanner, daughter of William and Mary Strain, was born July 28, 1855; died Aug. 29, 1939; at the age of 84 years, 1 month and 1 day. She was married to Willis G. Swanner, Dec 8, 1876. Her husband, one son and two daughters preceded her in death. She is survived by three sons, one daughter, one brother, one sister, sixteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. She joined the Primitive Baptist Church abut fifty-four years ago. She was a member of Zion's Rest Church. Funeral service was conducted by her pastor, Elder A. H. Garner, and her nephew, Rev. W. T. Strain, a Missionary Baptist. They both made a beautiful talk, after which her body was laid beside her companion to rest in peace until the morning of the resurrection.
