RUSSELL SAMUEL PRYOR, aged 69, of Greensburg, Smithsburg, Route Two, died at 9:45 p.m. Saturday at the Washington County Hospital.
He had been in failing health for four years but continued to operate his store at Greensburg until a month ago when he was admitted to the hospital. He underwent an operation three weeks ago.
Born in Wolfsville, Frederick County, he was the son of Samuel C. and Ida E. (Swope) Pryor. He spent his early life in Wolfsville but in his early twenties moved to the Smithsburg area where he resided the rest of his life. He was employed by the Bushey quarries for 18 years and later by the Landis Tool Company. For the last ten years, he operated a grocery store at Greensburg.
A member of St. Paul's Methodist Church in Smithsburg, he is survived by the following: children, Alvie R. Pryor, Mrs. Albert Schroyer and Mrs. Herbert Manspeaker, Smithsburg, Route Two; Percy Pryor, Hagerston; Carroll S. Pryor, and Alvin Wilkinson, Smithsburg; Harold R. and Ralph D. Pryor, and Mrs. Nevin Brunner, Chewsville; 29 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brothers, Raymond Pryor, Waynesboro; Earl, Smithsburg, and Jennings, Mt. Zion, Md.; a sister, Mrs. George Wolfe, Waynesboro: half-brother, Stanley M. Pryor, Lantz, and half-sister, Mrs. Etta Davis, Hagerstown.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. from the Lutheran Church in Wolfsville, the Rev. George Gray officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
Friends may call at the Grove Funeral Home in Waynesboro from 7 to 9 this evening.
