World War I U.S. Navy Veteran. After graduating from Pomona College in Claremont, California, in 1917, she served as a Yeoman 3rd Class, U.S. Naval Reserves, during World War I (1918-19). She was the wife of Jerome B. Walden, mother of two sons, a daughter and sister of Mary Sturges Kanouse. She was also a writer and pioneer school teacher in Murrieta, California.
