He was preceded in death by a daughter, Estell Melton in 1928 and his first wife Mollie Melton in 1889.
His survivors include his widow, Fronnie Elizabeth Lee Melton, whom he married in 1889 in Stantonsville, TN. Five of his six children also survive: John Henry, Will, Jodie, Brodie and Bertha Melton.
Mr. Melton was buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Chester County, TN.
