Mr. James Floyd Bland Sr., age 83, died Wednesday, November 24, 2004, after an extended illness. Mr. Bland was a lifelong resident of Bulloch County in the Middleground Community. He was a 1941 graduate of South Georgia Teachers College High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II. He served in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines, in the T/5 Medical Regiment Infantry Division, 128th Battalion. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation, three Battle Stars and the Good Conduct Medal. He attended the Temple Hill Baptist Church and was a member of the Middleground Merritime Club. Mr. Bland was a retired farmer and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Rochel A. and Ester Donaldson Bland; his brothers, Edmond A. Bland of Statesboro and R.A. Bland of Houston, Texas; his sister, Lorene Parker of Screven County; and one great-grandson, Henry L. Durden.

Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Emogene Rushing Bland of Statesboro; three sons and daughters-in-law, James Floyd Jr. and Judith C. Bland of Washington, Rochel and Frankie Bland of Statesboro and Gary and Marsha J. Bland of Newington; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Charles Bragg of Statesboro and Deborah and Sammy Cato of Statesboro; nine grandchildren, Cindy Durden, Brian Bland, Connie Clark, Joey Bland, Jennifer Bland, Holli Pryor, Melissa Sack, Wendy Cato and Wayne Bragg; 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; two sisters, Mary Welch of Statesboro and Vivian Smart of Jacksonville, Fla.

The funeral service for Mr. Bland will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Carlton Hendrix and the Rev. J.T. McCain officiating. Burial will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Brian Bland, Joey Bland, Wayne Bragg, Merle Clark, Henry Durden, Lawton Sack and Lloyd Prior.

Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
