ALCORN Col. James Pryse
96, of Lexington, loving husband of 71 years to Frances Ruth Wilson, passed away Friday, Nov 16th at home. Col. Alcorn was born Jan 19, 1916 in Beattyville, KY to the late John and Ethel Jones Alcorn. He was a graduate of Bryan Station H.S. and the University of Kentucky. Col. Alcorn had a distinguished military career of 27 years. A veteran of WW II and the Korean Conflict, he served with distinction both in combat and peace time. He received the Silver Star for Valor, 3 Bronze Stars for valor, and the Legion of Merit. Col. Alcorn served as UK's Professor of Military Science. He was a member of Southern Hills United Methodist Church. Col Alcorn served as President, District Governor and Most Valuable Member of the Lexington Lions Club. He was active in the Red Cross, Kentucky Eye Bank Foundation, the Paul Miller Ford Foundation, the Child Development Center, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, and ODK Honorary Fraternity. Besides his wife, Ruth, Col. Alcorn is survived by one son, James K. (Darlene Jenkins) of Lexington, one daughter, Janet (Charles) Hine, one granddaughter, Jennifer (Sam) Grant and one great-grandson, Zachery Grant, all of Destin, FL. Col. Alcorn's brothers, John Mitchell Alcorn and William P. Alcorn, along with 1 infant sister and 2 infant brothers preceded him in death. Funeral services will be at 11am Monday at Milward-Southland where visitation will be from 2-5pm Sunday. Burial will be at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
