ALCORN LTC John Mitchell, 90, of Lexington, husband of Cynthia Greenup Alcorn, passed away Sat, Feb 18, 2012. He was born Jan 3, 1922 in Beattyville, KY, the son of the late John and Ethel Jones Alcorn. Mitch served in the U.S. Marines, U.S. Army, attended the University of Kentucky and was a postmaster in Midway, KY. He served in World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and many more medals given by the military. He was an active member of Crestwood Christian Church and several other organizations. He loved baseball and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Besides his wife, survivors include one daughter, Pamela (Charles) Layell, Lexington; one brother, James P. (Ruth) Alcorn, Lexington; two grandchildren, Andrea Baker and Alissa (Steve) Cress; numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, William P. Alcorn. Funeral services will be 11:30am Tue at Milward - Southland with burial to follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4pm until 7pm Mon at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association .
