Lola Mae Clary Snelling

Lola Mae (Clary) Snelling, age 84, of Edina, MO, passed away Monday, November 12, 2012, at her home north of Edina. She was born December 6, 1927, in Knox County, Missouri the daughter of Ralph Dewey and Martha Lucille Shubert Clary. She was united in marriage to Joe V. Snelling September 15, 1948, in Kirksville, MO. Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Joseph V. Snelling of Edina, MO, three children, Stephen G. Snelling of the home, Jack Michael Snelling and wife Laura of Kirksville, MO, Linda J. Hollon and husband Richard of Milan, MO, four grandchildren, Tyler Snelling of Kirksville, MO, Travis and Erin Snelling of Columbia, MO, Kyle Hollon and Kelly Hollon of Milan, MO, and great grandchildren Tucker and Mika Snelling of Columbia, MO, several nieces, nephews, cousins, one sister-in-law Ginnie Snelling of Baring and a host of good neighbors and friends. Lola was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Ralph Denver Clary and two sisters Helen L. Jones and Mary Ruth Schrage. Lola was a housewife and homemaker. She received her education in White Oak rural school and Knox City Public School. As a young lady Lola moved to Portland, OR with her family during World War II to work in the shipyards. She mastered several skills in ship building while there. She worked as a park attendant in Portland, OR also. Around 1945, she and her family returned to their family farm in rural Knox County and continued to farm. She worked at the Edina Glove Factory until she met and married Joseph Snelling. They lived several places until they moved to their farm north of Edina in 1959. She helped her husband on the farm, raised her family and ran a dog kennel until her health failed. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2012, in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Officiating the services will be Marty Palermo. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Musical selections will be "In the Garden", "How Great Thou Art" and "No Place That Far". Casket bearers will be Tony Snelling, Dan Clary, Sam Clary, Kyle Hollon, David Schrage and Travis Snelling. Honorary bearers will be Gary Snelling, Ray Prebe, Red Callahan, Roland Hamlin, Tim Schrage, J.V. Norton, Mike Kinsel, Ernie Schrage and Don Woodward. Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. Friday, November 16, 2012, with family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.
