Shirley Mae Gibson was born Nov. 26, 1933 in Tulsa, OK. She was the daughter of Guy Gibson and Dorothy Guy. She was reared and educated in Hedrick, Iowa. She married V. Deane Clingman on November 5, 1950 in Hedrick. Shirley lived in Washington for 16 years, was a member of the Christian Church, and worked as an Avon Representative.

Shirley and Deane were the parents of 3 children: Larry Deane Clingman, John Wayne Clingman, and Shirleen Denise Clingman.

At the time of her death, she was surived by her husband, Deane; two sons, Larry and John both of Washington; one daughter, Denise of Washington; her mother, Mrs. Clarence Porter of Ashville, N.C.; her father Guy Gibson of Sacramento, California; two brothers, Guy G. Gibson of Sacramento; and David C. Porter of Arden, N.C.; three sisters, Pamela and Diana Gibson, and Penny Cruse of Sacramento. Mrs. Clingman was preceded in death by her Grandfather, Rev. Hugh C. Guy, who was the pastor of the Christian Church in Hedrick.

The funeral was held at the Christian Church in Washington with the Rev. W. Hill of Marshalltown officiating. Burial was at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Martinsburg.
