Civil War Confederate Army Brigadier General. Prior to the Civil War, he was a Georgia State Solicitor and lawyer. In early 1861, he was commissioned Captain in the 25th Georgia Volunteers and promoted Colonel in September. He served in actions with the Department of South Carolina, Georgia and Florida Vicksburg Campaign from 1862 to October 1863. He was promoted Brigadier General in November 1863 and while commanding a brigade of infantry corps at Chichamauga, Georgia, he died at his post from camp fever.
