Lovel Hayes/Hays was the son of Nelson (born 1866)and Lucinda (Smith) (born 1867) Hayes.Born in Kentucky. Lovel was my Grandpa (Poppie).

His Brothers & Sisters were:
Clark
Dennis
Delmas
Lawrence (Larry) #101540024
Arvel
Astor #101539490
Clara Amburgey #33518389
Orpha Sorrells
Effie Watts #101752445
Alma Banks #101431106

He married Elizabeth Williams on May 21, 1919. Together they raised 5 children. Clyde Hayes (deceased) of Port Clinton, Ohio, Themla (Hayes) Schnelzer-Hindman (deceased)#52191551, Irene (Hayes) Mitchell (deceased)#136907800, Ida (Hayes) Leslie (deceased)of Emma, Kentucky and Don Hayes of Marion, Ohio. 11 grandchildren

Poppie and my grandma moved from Kentucky to Ypsilanti,Michigan after their children were grown and married. He went to work at Ford Motors from 1957 until retiring in 1966. May of 1966 he retired and they moved to Marion, Ohio where they bought a house 4 doors down from my parents (Don and Patsy Hayes) and I.

My Grandpa loved to garden. His yard and garden were his pride and joy, never a weed. My Grandparents enjoyed the simple life, never drove a car, nor rode a bicycle, so they always had to live close to one of their children. While in Michigan their daughter Irene would take them to church, store etc. When they came to Marion it was my mom who drove them every where. But, I must say my Grandpa walked a lot. He would walk twice a week to town, to the grocery as long as his bags were not to much to hull with his little two wheel cart or carry.

I had heard from the family, my grandpa was a horseman. He broke horses & mules for a living while in Kentucky and used big work mules to do the heavy work. He provided well for his family. He was a loving Grandfather and always had a smile.

This was told to me by Amos Leslie of Emma, Kentucky on Nov. 5, 2021. Amos asked me what my grandfather's name was. I told him Lovel Hayes. He said, "My grandfather said, I am a good mule man, one of the best in these parts, but Lovel Hayes is the BEST in all the parts. He knew how to break and work mules."
