Charles Buma
Memorial services for 84 year old Charles Buma of McAllen, Texas, formerly of Cherokee, were held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Wharton-Redig Funeral Home, Aurelia. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Aurelia, under direction of Wharton-Redig Funeral Home. There was no visitation.
Charles Andrew died Thursday, Jan. 20,1994, at the Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen, Texas. He was born Nov. 24,1909, in Whitensville, Mass. The family moved to Aurelia when he was nine. He graduated from Aurelia High School in 1928, and attended the Boston School of Pharmacy in Boston, Mass.
In 1937, he married Marie Wagner in Templeton, and she preceded him in death in 1975. They made their home in Cherokee, where he was manager of the Engle Motor Company for 20 years. He worked, for Steele State Bank, Cherokee, until his retirement in 1975. In 1981, he married Pat McGrath in Independence, and has since made his home in both Independence and in McAllen. He served four years in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
He is survived by: his wife, Pat; one step-son, Jim McGrath, Independence; three step-grandchildren; and one nephew Jon Hunstock, Apple Valley, Minn.
He was preceded in death by three sisters.
