Mary Gertrude Black was the daughter of Hyde Black and Mary Gaddis. Mary was born in College Springs, IA. She married John Miles Francis McKie. Children: Ira Francis born 1892, Ella Mildred 1893, Amelia Janet 1895, Gilbert Francis 1899, Harold Malcomb 1902, Alice Elizabeth 1904, Geneva Gertrude 1908, Margaret Lillian 1913.
Obituary: Mary Gertrude Black was born Sept. 24, 1870 at College Springs, Iowa and grew to womanhood in that community and was united in marriage Dec. 24, 1890 to Francis McKie. To this union nine children were born, the oldest, Ira F. McKie, preceded his mother in death Nov. 20, 1917; Mrs. Ella Wickersham, Electric City, Washington; Mrs. Amelia Bateman, Ronan, Montana; Mrs. Mary Garrett, Longmont, Colorado; Gilbert F. McKie, Noxon, Montana; Harold M. McKie, Fort Morgan, Colorado; Mrs. Alice Berner, Fort Morgan, Colorado; Mrs. Geneva Craig, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Mrs. Margaret Frey, Denver, Colorado. Twenty grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, one brother (Horace Black), one half-brother (Morse Monzingo), two half-sisters (Martha Black and Amelia Monzingo), and her bereaved husband, besides a number of relatives and friends are left to mourn their loss. Early in life she united with the Methodist Church and at marriage with the United Presbyterian Church, later with the Noxon Methodist Church, where she remained in faithful service until her death. Mrs. McKie was a loving and affectionate wife, a sympathetic, devoted mother, a kindhearted neighbor and friend until her death Oct. 10, 1938 at Noxon, Montana. Funeral services were held Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church. Burial was made in the Noxon Cemetery.
