Hyde H. Black was born in Putney, VT, the son of Horace Black and Betsey Joy. Hyde served in the Civil war in Co. B, IL, 124th Inf. He married first Amelia Gaddis, daughter of Jacob Gaddis and Mary Metcalf. They had two children, Horace and Mary Gertrude. Hyde and Amelia divorced and Hyde married in 1874 to Anna Flint and their only living child was Martha. Amelia married second William Monzingo and had two more children, Morse and Amelia. Hyde was admitted 1915, age 74, state California, Los Angeles, Sawtelle, Pacific Branch to a veteran's home. He was 5 feet, 9 inches, dark complexion, gray eyes, dark hair, protestant, farmer, living before at San Bernardino, CA, married to Mrs. Hyde Black, Newton, KS, enlisted 11 Aug 1862 at Batavia, IL, private, company B, 124th IL infantry, discharged 13 June 1865, mustered out, Vicksburg, Mississippi, disability at admission, defective hearing, myalgia, and cardiac hypertrophy.
