Martha Farr Smith Bevill, 87, died Saturday October 27, 2012 at her home in Newington (Kildare) Georgia. Martha was born August 10, 1925 at her family homestead, Longwood, in Effingham and Screven Counties, Georgia.

She was the daughter of the late Cone Edward Smith and the late Mirtie Farr Smith.

She was educated in Screven and Chatham County public schools. She attended Savannah High School and graduated from Newington High School. She was a member of the U.S. Cadet Corp Nurses Program established during World War II to address the Nation's critical nursing shortage. She graduated from the Warren A. Candler School of Nursing in 1947 and was engaged and married the same year to her husband of 60 years Emory Hinton Bevill, Jr. of Kildare, Georgia. After marriage, the couple lived briefly in Galveston,Texas and Beaufort and Camden, South Carolina before returning to live in Kildare at the Bevill family homestead in Effingham County. She was a member of Mizpah United Methodist Church, the ancestral church of the Bevill family. She worked her entire professional career at Candler Hospital in Savannah were she served as Recovery Room Director.

Her husband Emory Hinton Bevill, Jr. and daughter Pauline (Polly) Smith Bevill Marsh precede her in death. Also preceding her in death are two sisters Sarah Floyd and Eve Underwood and three brothers, Augustus Smith, Joseph Smith and Walter Smith.

Immediate survivors include a son, Emory Hinton Bevill III of Lewes, Delaware and two grandsons, Robert William Marsh III of Newington and Matthew Bevill Marsh (Tara) of Sylvania, Georgia and respective grandchildren Kaydence and Gentry; and, two sisters, Christine Cieslowski of Newington and Mirtie Dockery of Douglas, Georgia; and, two sister-in-laws, Lytle Bevill and Mary Bevill Helmey, both of Savannah.

Visitation will be Tuesday October 30, 2012 from 5 to 7 PM. The funeral will be Wednesday October 31, 2012 at 11 AM at Mizpah United Methodist Church (Kildare Community) with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Remembrances may be made to Mizpah United Methodist Church Building Fund c/o 122 Mizpah Road, Clyo Georgia 31303. Thomas C.
