Mrs. Parthenia Hilliard Franks, 66, of Atlanta, Ga., departed this joyous life peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at Dekalb Medical Center. Parthenia was a proud native of Dinwiddie County, and a graduate of Southside High School of 1964.

She attended Morgan State University, Baltimore, Md., and went on to receive a Bachelor's degree in Language Arts and her Master's degree from Howard University, Washington, D.C., in Speech-Language Pathology. She also went on to receive her Doctorate's degree from Georgia State University, Atlanta, Ga., in Career Development. Parthenia was also a certified Speech-Language Pathologist, and a tenured associate professor at Morehouse College for over 25 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Estelle Staton Hilliard and Robert Roy Hilliard Sr., and her sibling, Robert 'Bobby" Hilliard Jr.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at 1 p.m. at the Olive Branch Baptist Church, Dinwiddie, with the pastor, the Rev. Kevin Northam, officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Public viewing will be on Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, at the Petersburg Chapel.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph M. Johnson & Son Funeral Home, 530 South Sycamore Street, Petersburg, (804)-863-4411.

Parthenia was predeceased by her parents, Estelle Staton Hilliard and Robert Roy Hilliard, Sr., sibling Robert Hilliard Jr., and ex husband, William Arnold Franks of Atlanta, Georgia.
