William A. Hilliard, 67, a Dinwiddie resident by way of Houston, Texas, departed this life on October 4, 2019, after a sudden accidental house fire.

A native of Dinwiddie County and graduate of the class of 1970, William "Billy" became a servant of God as a youth when he joined Olive Branch Baptist Church and was very active in all of its youth activities. He joined the Shrine of the Black Madonna in Houston, Texas and continued his work for the Lord.

Billy attended Delaware State University and received his BS degree in Biology with a minor in Business Applications in 1974. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and was elected President of the chapter for a year. He continued his education completing several specialized management and sales courses from the Bernard Barich School of Business in New York. His final profession was a self-employed independent insurance agent and also part-time security. He was an active member of the Houston Independent Insurance Agents Association.

William "Billy" Hilliard exemplified and personified one of his favorite scriptures: "For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of love and of power and of a sound mind." If one could describe his personal and business attributes in simple words, it would be that he always placed the client's needs above his own. He always took pride in being able to look anyone in the eye and say, "What you see here is exactly what you get, no sugar-coated stuff here, just me."

William was an avid reader and he truly enjoyed classic movies, visiting and spending ample time with his family, writing letters to friends and family, engaging in community service and traveling.

He was an amazing listener and would offer and give such helpful advice. He was non-judgmental, highly adaptive, honest and comforting because he could get along with just about anyone.

William was predeceased by his parents, Estelle Staton Hilliard & Robert Roy Hilliard, Sr., and his eldest siblings: Robert Roy Hilliard, Jr. and Parthenia "Parsh" Hilliard Franks.

He leaves to cherish his memory his twin brother, James " Jimmy" Hilliard of Dinwiddie, VA; his nephew, Robert Hilliard Franks of Atlanta, GA; his cherished and highly supportive aunt, Earlene Coston of Richmond, VA; his wonderful and loving cousins, among them, Marlesha Hardy, Sandra Staton, Janet Staton, Jada Fowers, Michael Green, Premiere Hardy, Clarence Staton, Jr., Tonya Ford, Joan Carlton, Delores Cohen, Sabrina Peoples, Claudette Bland, Sonja Harvell, Michael Coston, Margaret Brown, Sharon Thompson, Gregory Hilliard, Clinton Hilliard, Delano Bland, Wandrick Bland, Robert Mason Jr., Jovan Cunningham, B.J. Staton, and a host of others especially devoted relatives and friends, among them; Florence Shands, Tommy Shands, Jesse Blackwell, Rev. Kevin Northam, Roberta Shands, Jade Gray, The Henderson family, David Allen, Donna Brock, James White, Edmund Guy, Leroy Cashe, Cassandra Kelley, and Roscoe Farmer.

A funeral service will be held 12 noon on Saturday, October 26, 2019, at the Olive Branch Baptist Church, Dinwiddie, with the pastor, Rev. Dr. Kevin M. Northam, officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Family and friends are welcome to make memorial contributions in honor of Mr. William A. Hilliard to the Johnson Funeral Home, Petersburg, Virginia.
