Robert Roy Hilliard Jr., a New York resident, died at the Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, N.Y., after a sudden and brief illness. He was a native and high school graduate of Dinwiddie County, VA. He became a servant of God as a youth when he joined Olive Branch Baptist Churchin Dinwiddie County and was remarkably active in all of its youth activities. Joining Convent Avenue Baptist Church of New York in 1988, Robert continued his work for the Lord.

Robert, "Bob, Bobby," attended Howard University, Washington, D.C., and went on to receive his bachelor's degree from the City College of the City University of New York and his master's degree from Columbia University School of Social Work, New York City. He was also a graduate of the Gestalt Associates for Psychotherapy Program. His outgoing personality, glee at helping others, and his genuine love for people guided him to become both a certified and licensed clinical social worker and a certified and licensed psychotherapist. In these capacities and well known for his strong work ethic, optimism, enthusiasm, and positive outlook, "Bob" enjoyed employment at the following venues, Long Island University, Special Education Services Unit; Manhattan Children's Psychiatric Center; Queens College, Consultant, Upward Bound Center; and Northside Center for Child Development. He spent the last 28 years of his illustrious career at the Mt. Sinai Medical Center, with 10 years at its Adolescent Health Center, and 18 years at its Adult Psychiatry, Day Treatment Programs. He also maintained a private practice, providing psychotherapy for youth, couples, and families. Considered by many to be a highly creative servant-leader, Bob was especially happy when coordinating and participating in group initiatives, projects, and programs that were charged with inspiring and uplifting others. As a young man, he was a founding member of "The Advocates," a social organization with the mission of helping homeless and disenfranchised mothers and others in need. He also continued his life-long interest in the performing arts, starting off with acting and stage manager duties in the Hadley Players, an Off-Broadway, Harlem-based theater group, and through the years was the one often called upon to not only attend gala events, but to also "fill-in" where needed. Robert's passion was the Convent Avenue Baptist Church Scripture Choir of which he was its current president.

In addition to being an avid reader and an immensely popular relative, friend, co-worker, and therapist, Robert's generosity and extraordinary sense of humaneness compelled him to contribute to his beloved Olive Branch and Convent Avenue Church families as well as to several organizations and interests, some of which were the United Negro College Fund, The Schomburg Society, the Bergen Performing Arts Center, the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and the National Cancer Research Center

A homegoing service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2007 at the Olive Branch Baptist Church, 11119 Boydton Plank Road, Dinwiddie, VA.

New York memorial services were held in early June 2007 at Convent Avenue Baptist Church, New York, N.Y., where Robert worshipped, and at the Mount Sinai Medical Center, Psychiatry Care Center, Continuing Day Treatment Programs, New York, N.Y., where he was employed as a primary therapist.
