BURREN BROWN
Burren Brown was born in the parish of Shadoxhurst, Kent, England, Aug.23, 1833 and died at his home in Martin, May 20, 1919. He was the son of James and Celia Brown. His early life was spent in the atmosphere of a quiet religious home, a place rich in historical incidents and famous for its beautiful scenery but his father wishing to give his children, three sons and three daughters, better educational and other advantages, came to this country in 1847, three years later removing to Gun Plains township, then a new country where wild, game and deer were plentiful. At one time they counted eleven deer feeding in their wheat field. In 1870 Burren Brown was married to Miss Mary Ann Hoyt who, with two children, Dr. James Brown of Levering and Mary of Martin, surviving him. Funeral services were held May 23 at the Methodist church of Martin, conducted jointly by the pastor of that church, Rev. Wallace and Rev. John Fletcher of Plainwell, the later having officiated at the funerals of Mr. Brown's father, mother, brother and sisters, eight in all. Buried at Hillside.
