TO THE HOME BEYOND
Mrs. William Archer.

On Thursday evening last occurred the death of Mrs. Wm. Archer at the family residence in North Gun Plains. Harriet, daughter of the late James and Celia Brown, early settlers and esteemed residents of the township, was born in the parish of Shadoxhurst, Kent, England, Jan. 13,1834. At the age of 16, she came with the family to this country. They lived for about three years in the state of New York, then came to Michigan in April, 1850 and settled on the farm of James Brown in the northern part of this township. That was her home until May 29, 1858,when she married to Wm. Archer, who morns the loss of his faithful companion of 42 years.

She has been blessed with health fairly good until within the last few months and has been an industrious and useful woman. On the first of July last she was attacked with brain trouble, causing a disturbed condition mentally but was able to be about the house most of the time and was thought to be recovering until one hour before death, when a sudden change took place and she passed away from the scenes of earth in a state of unconsciousness at 5:50 p.m. being unable to recognize her family or express a parting word.

She gave attention to religion in early life and was known as a sincere, consistent and devoted Christian and an esteemed member of the Plainwell Baptist church for 36 years. She was a woman of kindhearted disposition and a few words, which were thoughtful and well chosen and free from unkind or rash utterances to injure or wound others. She was of untiring devotion to her family and found satisfaction in doing for others. She was ever the advocate of peace and good will, always, wearing the ornament of a meek and quiet sprit. Her loving attributes as a mother were felt and enjoyed by many outside her home.

She leaves her husband and three sons, Burren F. of Harvey, Ill. Wm. E. and Edward J. at home and two brothers, James and Burren Brown of GunPlains and a large number of relatives and friends to mourn her loss. The funeral, which was largely attended, was held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the home, Rev. J. Fletcher assisted by Rev. Fred Berry, officiating.
