Thomas Bell of near Bridgewater passed away at the Jennie Edmundson hospital at Council Bluffs Sunday afternoon, October 16, after an illness of less than one week, he having taken sick at the Humbert sale Tuesday, October 11.

Thomas Bell was born in Scotland and came to America when a boy of 11 years of age settling in Marshall county, Illinois, where he resided until a young man when he came to Iowa with his parents locating on the farm where he has resided ever since having come here in 1873. He was united in marriage to Miss Blanche Smeaton in 1880 to which union were born seven children: Richard Douglas who departed this life May 19, 1924; Arthur who resides on the home farm; Mrs. Mary Everhart of Bridgewater; Mrs. Olive May of Waterloo; Mrs. Ida Humbert of Corning; Mrs. Lillian Abbey of Bridgewater; Miss Dorothy Bell at home, and the faithful wife are left to mourn the loss of a loving and faithful husband.

He will be greatly missed by a large circle of friends and neighbors for to know him was to respect and to love him for his sterling character, high ideals, and real manhood as he always exemplified the highest qualities of good citizenship. He will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
