RITES FOR FORMER CASS WOMAN HELD

Massena - Funeral rites for Mrs. F. J. Alber, former Cass county resident who died at a Des Moines hospital were held Tuesday at the Methodist church at Greenfield. The Rev. Mr. R. Tall... was in charge of the service, assisted by rev. F. A. Hanks of the Presbyterian church.

A quartet composted of Mrs. A. Barr, Mrs. Lewis Mills, P. L. Bickford, and W. R. Piper sang "Rock of Ages" and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye," Mrs. Ethel Carl accompanying at the piano.

The pallbearers were Jesse Everhart, John May, Walton Abbey, Wallace Grounds, and Fred Alber. Burial was in the Victoria township cemetery.

Mrs. Alber, the former Miss Blanche Smeeton, was born Aug. 5, 1871 in Ottumwa, the daughter of James and Sarah Smeeton. At the age of ten years she came with her parents to... where the family located in Victoria township, where she grew to womanhood and where she united in marriage to Thomas Bell on Dec. 25, 1889.

The eldest son, Richard, died in 1925 and Mr. Bell died in October 1926. Surviving are a son, Arthur Bell, who resides on the homestead; and five daughters, Mrs. Jesse Everhart of Victoria township; Mrs. Olive May at Jesup, Mrs. Ida Humbert of Fort Robinson, Neb., Mrs. Lillian Abbey of Mt. Etna, and Mrs. Dorothy Grounds of Greenfield.

In the fall of 1938 Mrs. Bell retired from the farm and moved to Greenfield, where on May 4, 1911, she was married to F. J. Alber, who also survives.
