David Thomas Adam, 63, of 1095 50th St., Batavia passed away at 7:25 am May 14, 2012 at Sunnybrook Living Care Center in Fairfield, after living with Lou Gehrig's Disease for the past 2 1/2 years.

He was born March 3, 1949 in Jefferson County, IA to Richard and Marlys Bechen Adam. He married Cathy Ann Shafer on November 28, 1970. She preceded him in death on September 28, 2005.

David was a resident of rural Batavia where he and Cathy farmed and raised their family. In his later years he and Cathy enjoyed time in Gold Canyon, AZ where they had numerous friends and cousins who all meant a lot to David. After Cathy's passing, David was fortunate to enjoy the companionship of Linda Johnson of Ottumwa. They were also able to enjoy the company of Arizona together as well as many other travels which they embarked on together.

He had been a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Batavia Lions Club and the Heartland Boot Scooters. David enjoyed attending services at the First Lutheran Church in Ottumwa where he was always welcomed by the congregation of whom he made many friends.

One of David's final thoughts to be shared is that "I am eternally grateful for the love and support of my family which includes the Linda Johnson Family, and I'm thankful for all the help and support of the staff at the Sunnybrook Living Care Center".

Surviving is his son, Gregory(Brandi)Adam of rural Batavia; a granddaughter, Katelyn; his parents, Richard and Marlys Adam of Fairfield; siblings, Kathleen Davis, Susanne Kelly, Nancy Horras, Shirley Smith, Dean Adam, Doug Adam; numerous nephews, nieces and godchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife and a son, Christopher Michael Adam.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Friday at the First Lutheran Church with Rev. Ralph Kister officiating. Cremation will follow the services. Visitation begins at 11 am Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5-8 pm Thursday. Private inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the First Lutheran Church.
