Marlys Lou Adam
Marlys Lou Adam, 85, of Fairfield, died Monday, June 30, 2014, at Jefferson County Health Center.
A funeral Mass is at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield with the Rev. Nick Adam officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the church, followed by prayers for a Christian wake beginning at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to A.L.S. Association or to St. Mary Catholic Church.
Arrangements are in the care of Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.
Mrs. Adam was born June 22, 1929, at Lake Andes, South Dakota, the daughter of Vincent and Rose Novotny Bechen. She married Richard P. Adam June 22, 1948, at Lakes Andes.
She grew up in South Dakota and graduated from Lake Andes High School in 1947.
After marriage, the couple farmed and raised a family west of Packwood. They lived on their farm for 44 years before moving to Fairfield in 1993.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Altar & Rosary Society, P.E.O., Chapter M.B., and the Dorcas Group at Abingdon.
Survivors include her husband Richard; six children, Kathleen Davis of Enterprise, Alabama, Suzanne Kelly and husband Bob of Huntington Beach, California, Nancy Horras and husband Jim of Fairfield, Shirley Smith and husband Dan of Westport, Connecticut, R. Dean Adam and wife Cheryl of Batavia, Douglas Adam and wife Michelle of Packwood; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one brother, Virgil Bechen.
She was preceded in death by one son, David Adam, her parents, three grandchildren and one brother, Vincent Bechen Jr.
