L. D. or Dee or Miss Dee as many called her is believed to have been named Ladelia Bufford at birth; but, she made it very clear throughout the years that she did not like her given name. She would not share it with anyone. Even her marriage record reads simply "L. D. Bufford."

She was born February 12, 1858, in rural Macon County, Alabama to James Jeffries Bufford and his wife, Sarah Ann Elizabeth Bufford (nee Bedell). Her paternal grandparents were Mitchell Bufford and Sarah (Sallie) Bufford (nee Bragg). Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Jefferson Bedell and Caroline Merritt Bedell (nee Greene).

On March 16, 1880, she married John Allen Dubberley, son of Sacker Dubberley and Ann Awtry, in the home of her father, James Jeffries Bufford in rural Macon County, Alabama. Both the Bufford and Dubberley families are long time residents of Macon County.

They had six children all born in rural Macon County, Alabama:

Walter Benjamin Dubberley married Annie Lizzie Wright.
Cliffie Beulah (Cliffie D. or Dittie) Dubberley married James Everett Ray.
Jeffries (Jeff) Nathaniel Dubberly Mrytle Lassiter.
Annie Mae Dubberley married Robert Guy (Guy) Whatley.
John Allen (Doc) Dubberley, Jr. married Isle Luzon (Don) Powell.
Vannie Augustus Dubberley died young.

Miss Dee died at home March 20, 1950, and was buried beside her husband, John Allen Dubberley, in nearby Armstrong Methodist Cemetery, Macon County, Alabama. All six of her children are buried in the same cemetery.
