STERLING - John Harvey Crisler, 89, Sterling, died Friday afternoon, Jan. 24, 2003, at the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln. He was born March 19, 1913, at rural LaCygne, Kan., and graduated from Parker Kansas High School in 1931. He married Bernice Crow in 1932. In 1946, he married Eileen Dieckgrafe. After her death, he married Doris (Schilling) Leonard in 1955. He farmed for many years and also worked as the time-keeper for the City of Lincoln, retiring in 1979. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Sterling and the Eagles Club of Oregon. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and playing cards.

Survivors: wife, Doris; sons Ray Crisler of Portland, Ore., LeRoy Crisler of Long Beach, Calif., Gerald Crisler and wife Elsie of Moose Lake, Minn., and John J. Crisler of Redlands, Calif.; daughters, Joan Goodwin and husband Ted of Orlando, Fla., Carolyn Gilbert and husband Charles of Johnson, Linda Slone and husband Ron of Casper, Wyo., Sherryl Wallman and husband Terry of Lincoln, Donna Rathe and husband Darrel of Sterling; 30 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; brother, Allen Crisler of Lexington; sisters, Elizabeth Bodle of Welsh, La., Flora May Jones and husband Oliver of West Jefferson, Ohio; brothers-in-law, Malcom Hipsher of Glen Ellyn, Ill., Alvin Schilling of Scranton, Iowa, LaVern Dieckgrafe of Cook, and Roland Dieckgrafe of Wichita, Kan.; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Schilling of Jefferson, Iowa, Mildred Foster of Broman, Okla., Shirley Crisler of John Day, Ore. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Nora (Harvey) Crisler; his second wife, Eileen; a granddaughter, Cara Beth Crisler; and brothers, Robert, Kenneth and Gerald Crisler.

Funeral: 2:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, St. John Lutheran Church, Sterling, Pastor Doyle Karst officiating. Family prayer service: 2:15 p.m. Monday, basement of the church. Burial: Sterling Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the family's choice with Shannon and Erma Hazen in charge. Visitation at Zink-Fox Funeral Home in Sterling until 11 a.m. Monday and one hour preceding the service at the church. Zink-Fox Funeral Home, Sterling.
