Doris N. Crisler, 80 years of age, of Sterling, Nebraska died at her home on Thursday morning, August 25, 2005. She was born on July 8, 1925 at rural Jefferson, Iowa and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1943. She married Francis Leonard in 1943 and they later divorced. In 1944, she moved to Omaha, Nebraska and worked at Peony Park and as a bookkeeper. She married John H. Crisler in 1955 in Missouri. They had lived and farmed in the Sterling area since 1956. She also worked at Campbell’s Soup Company in Tecumseh for 27 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church of Sterling where she volunteered for numerous activities. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, fishing, camping and dancing. She also enjoyed her grand-children’s activities, all kinds of sports and her dog, Skippy. She worked as a volunteer at the Senior Diner in Sterling for several years.

Survivors include four sons, Ray Crisler of Portland, Oregon, LeRoy Crisler of Long Beach, California, Gerald Crisler and his wife Elsie of Moose Lake, Minnesota and John J. Crisler and his wife Brenda of Highlands, California. Five daughters, Joan Goodwin and her husband Ted of Orlando, Florida, Carolyn Gilbert and her husband Charles of Johnson, Nebraska, Linda Slone and her husband Ron of Casper, Wyoming, Sherryl Wallman and her husband Terry of Cortland, Nebraska and Donna Rathe and her husband Darrel of Sterling, Nebraska. 21 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. One brother, Alvin Schilling of Scranton, Iowa. Several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Minnie Chambers Schilling, her husband John Crisler who died on January 24, 2003, one granddaughter Cara Beth Crisler, two sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. at the St. John Lutheran Church of Sterling, Nebraska with Pastor Doyle Karst officiating. Burial will be in the Sterling Cemetery of Sterling, Nebraska. A family prayer service will be held at 12:45 P.M. in the basement of the church. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice with Shannon and Erma Hazen in charge. The body will lie in state at the Zink-Fox Funeral Home of Sterling, Nebraska until 10:30 A.M. Saturday morning and then at the church one hour preceding the service. A guestbook for signatures and messages of condolence is also available online at www.foxfuneralhome.net.
