Seth Orlando Adams
Chaumont, Jan. 17-The death of Seth Orlando Adams occurred yesterday at 11 at the Watertown City hospital at the age of 76. Mr. Adams had been in poor health for some time, but his condition becoming serious last week, he was taken to the hospital last Saturday afternoon, expecting to have an operation, but it was not deemed advisable in his weak condition so it was postponed until he should become stronger, but this expectation was not realized, as he rapidly grew worse Wednesday night and expiring at 11 yesterday morning.
He was born in the town of Orleans and was the son of John Adams and Eunice Farwell Adams. When he was ten years old he moved with his parents to Pillar Point on a farm. When a very young man, he was employed by Alva Washburn on his farm, staying with him for several years. Mr. Adams purchasing it later, where he resided for 60 years, coming to Chaumont a year ago last fall.
Fifty-four years ago he married Miss Frances E. Jackson of Pillar Point, daughter of Henry Jackson. Mr. Adams was a prominent granger and did business on the produce exchange for 15 years. In politics he was a staunch Republican. Mr. Adams was a man well liked by everyone, always ready to lend a helping hand where it was needed. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church.
He is survived by his wife, one son, Adelbert K. Adams of Watertown; one daughter, Mrs. Asel Bates of Pillar Point, one brother, Milo J. Adams of Watertown, and two sisters, Mrs. Cynthia Rector of Genesee county and Mrs. Cordelia Millard of Watertown. The funeral will be held Sunday at 12:30 at his late home, Rev. George Ernst, officiating. Interment will be made at Dexter.
