He was listed as a private in Company C., Eleventh Alabama Cavalry Regiment April 1, 1863, at Frankford, Alabama in Franklin Co. "for three years or the duration of the war" by Capt Wisdom.

He was paroled at Pond Springs, Alabama in Lawrence County Alabama.

James Monroe Goins was the son of Washington Joshua Goins and Hannah J. Goins.
He was born Sept. 28, 1845, at Calhoun Georgia, in Gordon County, according to the 1907 census of "Confederate Soldiers Living in Alabama."
He appeared in the 1850 census of Hall County as a four-year-old.
He reappeared in the 1860 census of Franklin County at the age of 14.
Monroe Goins was married to Nancy Ramsey on Dec. 29, 1867, according to Colbert County Marriage Book A, License No 73.
Apparently "Monroe Goins" obtained a second license, No 79, two days later and they were married again by a different official.

He was listed as a private in Company C., Eleventh Alabama Cavalry Regiment April 1, 1863, Frankford, Alabama in Franklin Co. "for three years or the duration of the war" by Captain Wisdom.
He was paroled at Pond Springs, Alabama in Lawrence County Alabama.

In a pension application dated April 22, 1899, he stated that he had received a knee injury and also cited a head injury that he received in the Battle of Selma.
He stated that at Selma, Alabama he was struck on the head by a falling treetop which was cut off by an enemy shell.
He stated that he "can't work in the sun" because of the injury.
He stated that he was 55 and a resident of Colbert County, Alabama.
He showed that he owned "2 hogs and sheep and goats valued at $1.50 and a household and kitchen furniture valued at $ 25.00; totaling $26.50.

Alabama. The Muster roll of the last name company for 31 December 1863 to April 1863 latest on file shows him absent, sick.
No later record of him has been found.

According to Colbert County marriage records, James Munro Goins married an AE Moore on July 30, 1874. This was his second marriage. According to family legend, AE Moore Goins drown in a flood in Texas.
Quoted by my grandmother 2002:
AE Moore moved to Mobile, Alabama when her daughter, Ada was about 3 years old.

She divorced Monroe Goins and went to Texas. She married a wealthy man there and drowned in the flood in 1900. Galveston, Texas
