In my 2nd great grandfather's (Giles Montgomery Adams Sr.) testimony for his brother William's pension application, he recalled how his brother almost died during the Civil War. "We were both members of Company E, 179th Regiment - Ohio Infantry Volunteers. In the month of March, 1865, while in camp near Nashville Tennessee, Wm. J. Adams, had an attack of Measles, which made him very sick. I nursed him all the time during his sickness. I thought it doubtful about his getting well, but he did recover. He complained ever afterward about his breast hurting. I think his health was impaired by that spell of Measles."
