Cliff Bride, 99, a former longtime Sheridan resident, died July 21 in McMinnville.
He was born June 4, 1912 in Coalinga, Calif., son of David and Ella (Evanson) Bride. At a young age, he moved to Yamhill, Ore., working on the family farm. He was educated at a one-room school in Pike, Ore. before starting at Yamhill High School. He graduated from Linfield College in 1933.
He married Loisel Haas from Sheridan in 1937. They made their home in Sheridan where she was a pharmacist at the Rexall Drugstore and he worked at the Farmers Union Co-op Creamery, across the street from the drugstore. In 1941, he started work at the Sheridan Post Office, and later became postmaster for 32 years. He retired in 1973, and then helped Loisel in the drugstore.
After retiring, they enjoyed traveling around the world with family and friends. In 1992, they organized a tour of Europe with the entire family. His hobbies included coin and (naturally) stamp collecting, traveling, and baseball. He played semi-pro baseball for several town teams after college. The couple loved to dance.
Cliff served in the Army and was stationed in Panama during WWII. He was active in civic life, participating in Sheramina Industrial Promotions, Chamber of Commerce, City Planning Commission and the local Draft Board. He was a lifetime member of Sheridan Odd Fellows Lodge #87, serving as their secretary for 60 years. He was a member of Ethel Rebekah Lodge #162, Elks Lodge, and VFW. Cliff was a volunteer fireman for the Sheridan Fire Department for 55 years. He became Captain and was fondly called "Cap" by his many friends.
Survivors include his five children, Marilyn (Herald) Levy, Donna Firestone, Connie (Jack) Plowman, Ross (Margie) Meyers, Maxine (Bruce) Stannard; nephew Don (Jo Anne) Yates; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Loisel of 68 years, his sister Ivy, and son-in-law Harvey Firestone.
Video history and viewing are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday, July 27 and 28 at Adamson's Sheridan Funeral Home.
Services will held at the Sheridan Baptist Church Saturday, July 30, with Video History starting at 10:30 and Funeral Service starting at 11 a.m. Vault Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park.

Had a bag piper with the firemen (traveling honor guard of firemen/women). Had a 1975 ladder truck with US flag on top of extended ladder. All 9 grand-children and 2 Yates greats wrote eulogy."
