Henry L. Bloms was born June 13, 1930 near Foxholm, the son of John C. and Margaret (Keller) Bloms. He attended elementary school near Foxholm and high school at St. Leo's School in Minot.

He married Garnet Vedvig July 25, 1950 in Minot. They moved to a farm near Lake Darling where they grew grain and ran a dairy farm.
