She was a seamstress, gardener and a homemaker. She sewed for many people. She was a wonderful cook and canned much of her food. She was survived by three sons, Howard and Laverne of rural Story City, Alvin of Nevada, Iowa and a daughter, Helen of Blairsburg. She was also survived by eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Nellie Smith donated the land upon which the Story City Hospital built.
