Max was the youngest child of Clinton Elijah and Jeanette (Howard) Johnson. He and his wife, Helen, who was 7 months pregnant were traveling to Minnesota to visit Helen's parents when they were hit by a drunk driver and both were killed.

RITES HELD FOR MR.
MRS. JOHNSTON WED.

GILBERT--A double funeral was conducted from the Congregational church here Wednesday afternoon for Mr. and Mrs. Max Johnson with the Rev. Mr. Wissler of Chester Center, former pastor of the local church, in charge. Interment was made in the Center cemetery.

Mr. Johnson died Monday evening at Fairmont, Minn. as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in which his wife was instantly killed.

A quartet sang several selections during the services. Pallbearers were boyhood friends of Mr. Johnson, Floyd Anderson, Harold Henderson, Edward Reiley, Allen Henderson, Home Brown, Dan Jacobson, Clifford Hanson, Roy Hanson, Norman Jacobson, Ernest Clouser, Chester Vilmont and Lloyd Templeton, all of this place.

Max Johnson was born at Gilbert in August, 1910, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clint Johnson, now residing near Winnebago. He attended school here. Following his marriage in 1929 to Helen Dundas Peters of Fairmont, Minn., he associated with his father in operating a farm near Huntley, Minn.

Surviving Mr. Johnson, besides his parents , are seven sisters and one brother: Mrs. Wilbur Duntz of Boone, Mrs. Ben Lee and Mrs. James Smith of Story City, Mrs. Thurlow Mason and Isabelle Johnson of Ames, Faye Johnson of Des Moines and William P. Johnson of Winnebago.
