Nellie was born in Isle of Wight County on April 27, 1874. She married John Wesley Beale around 1895. They had 11 children, Daisy, Enola, Louise, Eunice, J.A., Sis, Randolph, Rudolph, Earle, Brother and Margaret. Nellie moved from Hobbs, Virginia when her husband packed up the family and moved to Norfolk on a barge. She was a home maker and did not work outside of the home. She had been ill for awhile and a message was sent to her husband at work to come home. Nellie died on a Saturday. Her family was with her, she asked John to sing "God Be With You Till We Meet Again", when someone asked her where she was going she said "To Heaven, you stand here and watch me die, but Jesus will go with me all the way". The funeral was at the Oakland Church in Suffolk on Mother's Day at 3 O clock in 1929, she was buried in the cemetery there and later John was laid to rest by her side.
