Revolutionary War Veteran.

Son of Jeremiah Mills, Sr., and Elizabeth Marsh, who were married on November 12, 1766 at the Westfield Presbyterian Church in present-day Union County, New Jersey.

The younger Jeremiah served three months in the Revolutionary War, and also aided in suppressing Pennsylvania's Whisky Rebellion. In 1802 he settled in Cincinnati, Ohio, before removing to Dayton, Ohio in 1810, and during the War of 1812 he was a supply wagoner for the army. In 1818 he settled at the head of Stony Run in Washington Township, Warren County, Ohio, where he 'engaged as a pioneer' in clearing land and making brick for his dwelling. He erected a distillery below William Trotter's which he operated a few years. Jeremiah died testate with a will dated Nov. 27, 1850, which was proved Dec. 15, 1860, and a brief death notice for him was published on Dec. 20, 1860 in the Weekly Western Star, Lebanon, Ohio, page 2, column 5. His sons Dayton and Jeremiah began disputing his estate even before his death, which made for a voluminous amount of material in his estate records [see Boxes 103 & 105 of the Probate Court on Justice Drive in Lebanon].

Biography compiled by Jeremiah's 5th-great-grandson, Todd Whitesides.
