Harold S. Jones, 82, of East Hartford, beloved husband of the late Clara "Jane" (O'Neil) Jones, for 61 years, passed from this life to be with her again on Wednesday, (December 5, 2007). Mr. Jones was born in Windsor, the son of the late Edward and Narcia (Shackleford) Jones, and had been a longtime resident of the East Hartford community. He had been a proud U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Prior to his retirement in 1984, he had been employed as a Correctional Officer with the Connecticut Dept. of Corrections, and had been the owner of Jones Paving of East Hartford. He enjoyed all sports and was an avid N. Y. Yankee fan. His other interests included hunting, fishing and especially golf. He leaves to mourn his passing his children, Stanley and his wife, Linda of South Windsor, Linda of East Hartford, Renee and her husband, Ray of Bloomfield, Holly and her husband, Nate of Windsor, Tyler and his wife, Elise of Chicago, IL and Clark and his wife, Marie of South Windsor. He also leaves his 17 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. Mr. Jones also leaves his brother, Edward of Washington, D.C. He was predeceased by his sister, Virginia and by his three brothers, Robert, George (Dave), and James. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to gather for the funeral service at the New Covenant United Methodist Church, 16 Church St. East Hartford on Monday, December 10, at 11 a.m. The interment will follow with full military honors in the Veterans Memorial Field of the Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Mr. Jones's family will receive callers at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave. East Hartford, on Sunday from 2 - 5 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 300 Research Parkway, Suit 310, Meriden, CT 06450.
