Funeral rites for Mrs. Gertrude Derbyshire, 73, prominent Muncie resident who died Sunday morning at her home, 1702 South Elm St., will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, the Reverend Lewis E. Maples officiating. The body has been removed from Meeks mortuary to the residence where friends may call, and will lie in state at the church one hour preceding the services.
Mrs. Derbyshire was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Taylor Applegate, pioneer residents of Delaware County, and was a lifelong resident of this city. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Eagles, the D. of P., and the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W., the D.A.R. and the daughters of the G.A.R.
Surviving are the husband, Samuel; a daughter, Mrs. Ralph Kratzer of Billings, Mont.; a son, Paul, at home; three brothers, John Applegate of Muncie, Joseph Applegate of Anderson, and the Reverend Benjamin Applegate of Libby, Mont. Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Della Flatters, Mrs. Gince Herding, Mrs. Elizabeth McCall, and Mrs. Nanna Diggs.
