She was born to Jacob and Mary (Osborn) Hackleman, a twin of Mary. Her family moved from North to South Carolina in 1784, and she and her sister married brothers. Margaret married Henry Lines about 1800. The two couples moved to Indiana in 1807. Henry Lines drowned crossing a stream in January 1836. His widow then married Cornelius Cummings, who died about a year later. She had 14 children with Henry Lines.
