He is listed as a Revolutionary War soldier on page 168 of Roster of Soldiers of The American Revolution Buried in Indiana, Complied and Edited by Mrs. Roscoe C O'Byrne, Published by Indiana Daughters of the American Revolution, 1938.Jacob was born north of Philadelphia, PA. on July 16, 1752.
He was baptized into the Springfield Lutheran Church. Springfield Township, Buck County, PA. On August 16 1752.

The son of Michael and Elizabeth Sailers Hackleman.

In 1768 he moved with his family to their new home on the Southern fork of Mountain Creek in Rowan (now Catawba) County, North Carolina.

He married Mary Osborn(e) in Sept of 1773 and over the next
twenty-six years they had fourteen children: Elizabeth "Betsey,", Abraham, Sarah "Sally", Katherine "Caty", Isaac, Mary, Margaret "Peggy",Jacob, John, Susannah "Susan", Michael, Thomas, Frances "Fanny"Amorilla "Riller" Hackleman.
