John Henry Lines was the son of Henry Lines and Margaret Hackleman. He was born in Franklin Co. Indiana Territory, and married Martha Sample on 17 Nov 1842 in Lee Co Iowa. He was a teacher in Indiana before moving to Iowa, where he was the county clerk in Lee Co. Family records indicate John and Martha went to Oregon in 1848, and he became the Linn County clerk. Their son Frank was born in Linn Co in 1853. John died Oct 21, 1868 in Linn Co OR
