He was born July 10, 1923, in Quincy Location, a son of the late Emil and Jennie (Keranen) Karppinen and attended school in Trimountain.
Bill was employed locally in the mines. Prior to his retirement, he worked for 30 years at General Motors Buick Division as a job setter.
On August 6, 1946 he married in Angola, Ind.
Bill was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during WW II.
He was a member of the American Legion of Flint.
Bill loved to hunt, fish and make wood.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother and others.
Besides his parents,Bill was also prededed in death by a son-in-law and his cousins, Donald and Ronald Karppinen.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2006, at the Mountain View Mortuary in South Range with the Rev. Peter Gunderson to officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the mortuary. Military rites will be conducted at the service by the Copper County Veteran's Association.
Spring burial will be in the Atlantic Mine Cemetery.
