Trimountain - Emil W. Karppinen, 82, of Fourth Street in Trimountain died Tuesday at Portage View Hospital where he had been a resident-patient for the past four years.
He was born Sept. 13, 1901 in Quincy Location, a son of Anna and Jacob Karppinen, and attended school in the area. He later lived in Ithaca, N.Y. and for the past 55 years was a resident of Trimountain.
During his active life he was employed underground in copper mines of Quincy and Painesdale. Prior to his retirement he was employed as a security guard for the Vulcan Corp. Saw Mill in Donken.
On June 29, 1922 he married Jennie Keranen in Hancock. She died Jan. 20, 1973.
Surviving are 2 sons; 2 granddaughters; 3 great-grandsons; 2 nieces and 2 nephews he and his wife had reared; a sister and several other nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Mountain View Mortuary in South Range. The Rev. Arvo Onermaa will officate and spring burial will be in the Atlantic Mine Cemetery.
Friend may call from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
