John "Johnny" Eckhardt, 79, of 326 Cribbon Ave., died Sunday at United Medical Center--West.
He was born June 16, 1919, in Cheyenne, and had lived here all of his life.
Eckhardt served in the U.S. Army. He was stationed overseas for 37 months during World War II.
Eckhardt retired as a machinist for the Union Pacific Railroad after 40 years of service.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Eckhardt is survived by his wife, Nancy Eckhardt of Cheyenne whom he married in 1946 in Cheyenne; four brothers, Jacob Eckhardt and Reuben Eckhardt both of Cheyenne, David Eckhardt of Seattle, Wash., and Alex Eckhardt of Kimball, Neb.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Anna Eckhardt; and a brother, Manuel Eckhardt.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, 1 p.m. at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens with the Rev. David Caspersen officiating.
Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
Services are under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.
