Mr. Eckhardt was a machinist for the Union Pacific Railroad for 53 years.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Mr. Eckhardt is survived by two sons, Walter J. Eckhardt of Penn Valley, Calif., and Donald P. Eckhardt of Santa Fe, N.M.; three brothers, David Eckhardt of Federal Way, Wash., Alexander Eckhardt of Kimball, Neb., and Reuben Eckhardt of Cheyenne; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Eckhardt on Sept. 14, 1992; parents, David C. and Anna Marie Eckhardt; and two brothers, Manuel Eckhardt and John Eckhardt.
