Dixie was a beautiful flower of the bountiful Mississippi Delta, born to Otis and Lottie Watson Webb of Itta Bena on the leap year day of February 29th, 1924. She was the third child of six brothers and sisters-Dora Ethel, Allen, Dixie, Eugene, Don, and Sue.

She was a graduate of Itta Bena High School, attended the all-women Hillman College in Clinton, MS during the second Great War, and graduated from Blue Mountain College, MS. She was a caring, dedicated business education teacher, teaching in Mississippi at Thaxton and East Union High Schools and in Alabama at Tuscaloosa High School and Bibb County Vocational School, retiring in 1992. She was named the Alabama 1990 outstanding business office education teacher.

While at Hillman College, she met the love of her life-Joseph E. Chapman of Amory, Ms who was attending nearby Mississippi College's Military Officers Candidate School. They were married on April 17, 1945 and immediately departed for San Francisco where he was stationed.

To this life-long marriage were born two beautiful and talented girls, Linda Elizabeth in 1947 and Donna Jo in 1952.

Dixie was a very kind and loving person who enjoyed spending time with her family and being Mama Dixie. She was always willing to give whatever she could to people in need. She was a member of Brent Baptist Church where she worshiped with her strong Christian faith. She will be missed by members of her Lunch Bunch.

Dixie was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Donna Jo; sister, Dora Ethel; and brothers, Allen, Eugene and Don; and grandson, Zeke Walley. She is survived by husband, Joe; sister, Sue Rodriquez of Houston, TX; daughter, Linda (Pete) Walley of Brandon, MS; grandchildren, Joel (Heather) Strahan of Memphis, TN; and Megan (Aaron) Pritchett of Little Rock, AR; and great-grandchildren, Ryan Grace, Eliana, and Josey Strahan and Nathan and Jacob Pritchett.

A special thanks to loving caregivers at Brent Nursing Home.

Memorials may be made to Brent Baptist Church of Brent AL or to Zeke Walley Scholarship, First Presbyterian Day School, 1390 North State St., Jackson, MS 39202.
