Elbert Chapman known as Joe
to family and friends passed away Wednesday, March 12 at the UAB Burn Unit after a brief battle resulting from a home accident on Monday. He was 91, a Christian, and a member of Brent Baptist Church. Visitation was held at Brent Baptist Church, 11am Saturday, March 15 with service to follow at noon. Graveside services will be at Lakewood Memorial Cemetery, Jackson, MS 11am Monday, March 17th. His burial will be on the 3rd anniversary of the loss of his wife of 66 years, Dixie Webb Chapman.

Joe met Dixie at Mississippi College during the 2nd great war, later joining the Navy to serve as an electronics specialist aboard a PBY flying boat in the Pacific. He married Dixie in April 1945 to which two daughters were born - Linda in 1947 on her father's birthday and Donna in 1952. Donna preceded her parents to the heavenly realms in September 1978.

Joe was preceded in death by wife Dixie; his parents, Lonnie and Lille Chapman of Amory, MS; brother, Mahlon of Amory; sister, Wynell Knight of Lakeland, FL; daughter, Donna Strahan and grandson, Zeke Walley of Jackson, MS.

He is survived by daughter, Linda Walley of Jackson; grandson, Joel Strahan of Memphis, TN; and granddaughter Megan Pritchett of Little Rock, AR. He also leaves 3 great-granddaughters and 2 great-grandsons.
